Ashley Wilburn is a native of Hagerstown in Maryland. She graduated from North Hagerstown High School where she completed her secondary education. With a deep passion for family law, Ashley's present legal practice revolves around various aspects of family law. She focuses a majority of her work on divorce cases, alimony disputes divorce property distribution child custody battles, child support arrangements, postnuptial and prenuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement and issues, step-parent and private party adoptions and child welfare concerns. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning matters, including wills, trusts, probate, and estate administration, in addition to commercial contracts, civil litigation cases. Ashley has been a court-appointed mediator since 2019. She assists parties to resolve their disputes without the need for litigation or court involvement. Ashley mediates private cases as well as court-appointed mediation for individuals who wish to avoid the court process and litigation.
After finishing her undergraduate education at Loyola University of Maryland, where she earned dual bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science, Ashley pursued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. She graduated in 2013 and was ranked among the top 10 students in her class. While at law school, Ashley served as a Note Editor for the esteemed Western New England Law Review which showcased her dedication to legal research and scholarship.
Ashley began her clerkship career after she completed her law degree. She worked for renowned jurists from Connecticut and Maryland. She had the pleasure of working as a law clerk for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. In 2014, she returned to Hagerstown Maryland to work as a law clerk for the Honorable M. Kenneth Long, Washington County Circuit Court. Ashley joined Poole & Kane P.A. in 2015 as an associate attorney. as an associate attorney. Her main focus was representing the Washington County Department of Social Services in cases concerning child welfare. Ashley's tireless efforts contributed greatly to helping children who were victims of in the face of neglect or abuse at hands their parents or caregivers. Her commitment to social injustice transcended her legal career as she was a member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force. She was a tireless worker to increase awareness about human trafficking within the tri-state region.
In 2017, she was a founding member at Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and established her practice in family law including divorce, custody guardianships, child maintenance and divorce and estate and financial planning – wills, trusts and powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxies – and mediation.
Ashley established Wilburn Law Office, LLC, in 2023, with an intention to provide a personalized approach to every client's needs.
